Principal's Corner

Dear Appleby Family, 

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to E.R. Appleby Elementary School for the 2022-2023 school year!  I hope that your summer has been filled with fun family activities and that you have all enjoyed continued health. This has always been one of my favorite times of the year!  I love the excitement of preparing for and welcoming our students to Appleby, including our newest family members--our second graders!  

As I start my sixth year as principal of Appleby, I am honored to be part of an incredible team of professionals who are dedicated and passionate about creating the best learning experiences for our students. We have developed a strong educational program that addresses each child’s social, emotional, and academic needs, as well as celebrates their unique talents and interests.  We promote an educational environment that engages students in meaningful learning activities that help them develop the critical skills necessary to become independent, responsible, and productive citizens of the world.

We believe that social emotional learning is a key part of our students’ success and will support them throughout a lifetime of learning experiences. This year, as a school community, we will be focusing on growth mindset. A growth mindset can encourage a passion for learning and reduce frustration in the face of setbacks. Studies have shown that children with a growth mindset outperform those with a fixed mindset. We will teach our students how to build resiliency, grit, as well as understand the power of ‘yet’. We hope you will join us on our journey!  

We also believe our students’ success is embedded in the community and the partnerships we forge with our families--right now, more than ever, this is key. Through my many years as an educator, I have seen, time and time again, the power behind these partnerships.  Please know we welcome and appreciate your support and dedication to our children. Together, we will inspire and encourage your child to become a successful lifelong learner. Wish you and your family a wonderful 2022-2023 school year!
